The God of the Impossible

The God of the Impossible

Jesus stated in Matthew 17:20 that “if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed…” Now, our Lord could have said, “If you have faith that is as tall as a mountain,” but He did not.

This is curious because it could be that Jesus was not simply hinting at how our great faith can accomplish great things, but at how big God is in doing these great wonders even when our faith is as small as a mustard seed.

Sometimes we shy away from trying new things and accomplishing big goals because we feel we have to level up our faith to some great standard before attempting these things. Could it be that, in focusing on ourselves, we forget the power of the One who can move mountains?

What if Jesus was encouraging us to come with our little faith? Even when it seems tiny in our minds, what if He is simply saying, “Come to Me”?

What if faith was meant to grow, which is why Jesus referenced the mustard seed?

What if the object of our faith was not moving the mountains in our lives, but believing in the One who moves mountains?

Could it be that when you feel weak and powerless, but you still approach God with your little faith, your faith, though small in your mind and perhaps small compared to the faith of those you admire, is exactly what glorifies God?

Because you can never boast and say, “My faith moved the mountain.”

Your boast and your confidence are in the God of the impossible.

Perhaps the miracle is not that we had enough faith to move the mountain. Perhaps the miracle is that we brought our little faith to the One who could.
